Hanazono Mountain Bike Park

Hanazono Mountain Bike Park is a new lift-accessed mountain biking destination at Niseko Hanazono Resort in Hokkaido, Japan, officially opened in July 2026. The park features two dedicated mountain bike trails designed to accommodate different riding abilities, from beginners looking for an introduction to mountain biking to intermediate riders seeking a longer downhill experience in an alpine environment.

The main attraction is the 4,212 m long Hanazono Skyline, a blue-rated intermediate downhill trail. The trail descends approximately 347 vertical metres from the upper mountain to the base and is designed as a smooth, flow-oriented downhill experience with relatively little pedalling. The trail follows the natural terrain of the mountain and provides expansive views of the surrounding landscape, including views toward Mount Yotei.

At the base of the mountain, the 1,360 m Mori Loop provides a green-rated beginner trail. With approximately 39 m of climbing and 36 m of descent, the trail is designed as an accessible introduction to mountain biking and is suitable for first-time riders and families. Mori Loop is also free to use, although riders are required to check in at the resort reception before riding.

Uphill access to Hanazono Skyline is provided by the Hanazono Summer Gondola, which transports riders and their bikes to the upper part of the mountain. The gondola uses 10-person cabins and provides panoramic views during the ascent, making the uplift itself part of the overall experience.

The 2026 operating season runs from July 1 through October 12, subject to weather and operating conditions. The Hanazono Skyline is scheduled to operate through October 4, while the Mori Loop is available during the wider mountain bike park operating period. Regular operating hours are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the last ride at 3:30 PM.

The park offers a combination of lift-accessed downhill riding and beginner-friendly terrain, making it suitable for riders with different levels of experience. The surrounding Niseko landscape, forested terrain and views of the Hokkaido mountains provide a distinctive setting for mountain biking.

Mountain bike rentals are available at Niseko Sports, with a range of bikes for children, youth and adult riders. Private MTB lessons are also offered, with instruction tailored to the rider's experience and goals. For Hanazono Skyline, the resort recommends protective equipment, gloves and a full-face helmet.
